Minifigure gift for kids: what parents should know

A minifigure you assemble yourself is a small gift with a big effect when it suits the child. Here is what parents should consider for safety, choice and ordering.

Safety first

Minifigures and their parts are small parts. They are not for children under three. For older children too: keep them away from younger siblings, and parts do not belong in the mouth.

Which age rating applies to a particular part is not stated in Create Your Minifig but by the seller you order from. Check it there.

Which figure suits the child?

A figure goes down well when the child recognises themselves in it. Under Ideas you will find twelve theme worlds, for example pirates, castle, space, fire rescue, vikings, ninja and jungle. You can change every idea part by part in the Builder.

  • The child's favorite theme: pirates, knights, space or fire rescue.
  • A job the child admires, such as firefighter, astronaut or doctor. More in the guide “Minifigure by profession or hobby”.
  • A figure that looks like the child: face and hair can be chosen in the Builder, for example by searching for “red hair”.
  • Several figures for siblings or the whole family. In the collection, up to six figures fit on one playground.

Assembled or to assemble yourself

  • Assembled, the child can play right away. That is the better choice for younger children because no loose parts lie around.
  • Loose parts please children who like to build, because snapping the figure together is part of the gift. An adult should be there.
  • The 3D preview checks fit only digitally. Snap the figure together yourself before you give it away and check that everything holds.

How the parts reach the child

Create Your Minifig does not sell parts and does not take orders. You assemble the figure, create the parts list under “Buy parts” and order from a shop of your choice. Which option fits your figure is explained in the guide “Order minifigure parts”.

If the parts come from several shops, they do not arrive together. Allow some time and do not order just before the occasion.

What to know beforehand

  • The child's name is not on the figure. The figure is made of existing parts with fixed prints. You can write the name on a card.
  • Some parts, especially printed or older ones, are not available everywhere. Create Your Minifig does not state availability or prices; they are in the shop. If a part is not available, replace it in the Builder.
  • Used parts are mostly found on marketplaces such as BrickLink. The offers are shown in the respective shop.

Keep it and keep playing

A small box or a base helps keep the figure from getting lost. Below this guide you will find a selection of products for that.
